UWF Volleyball Rolls Past Valdosta State to 13th Straight Win

first_img Oct. 9, 2007 Box Score  PENSACOLA, Fla. – The West Florida Volleyball team improved to 22-2 on the season with a three game sweep of Valdosta State 30-21, 30-16, 30-24. Jamie Nichols (So. / Crawfordville, Fla.) and Isabela Gualberto (Sr. / Brazil) lead the offensive charge for the Argos, combining for 22 kills. Ten different West Florida players recorded a kill in the match, as the Argos out-hit Valdosta State 50-27 in Kills.The win moves the 24th ranked Argos to 7-0 in the Gulf South Conference, while the Blazers drop to 0-7 in the Conference and 9-15 on the season. Nichols and Danielle Spitzer (Sr. / Birmingham, Ala.) started out hot, combining for four early kills in game one, to give the Argos a comfortable lead, which was never challenged. Gualberto and Luciana Rapach (Jr. / Brazil) had the hot hand in game two, and then Kara Gonzalez (Fr. / St. Augustine, Fla.), Louann Rusch (So. / Homestead, Fla.), and Robin Law (Fr. / Pheonix, Ariz.) lead the attack in game three. Law finished with three kills and 6 digs, while Kara Gonzalez finished with 7 kills in only 11 attempts. Rusch pitched in with three kills and four digs in game three alone.Setter Madeline Gonzalez (Jr. / Puerto Rico) recorded 39 Assists and 10 digs, as she set up the Argos big hitters. Defensively, UWF had four players with double-digit digs, lead by Jerica Carter (Jr. / Gainesville, Fla.) with 21. Kimberly Clark (Jr. / St. Petersburg, Fla.) had 11 digs, while Rapach added 10 digs. Meanwhile, Stephanie Kirrstetter lead the Blazers with 10 kills and 16 digs. Laura Boos chipped in with 19 digs for Valdosta State, while Niki Patriarca recorded 12 Assists.Valdosta State was holding their opponents to a .159 Attack percentage on the season; however, the Argos pounded out a .259 percentage, with three players hitting over .400; Nichols, Gualberto, and Kara Gonzalez.
