PASADENA, CA – JANUARY 01: Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer speaks to the media after the Rose Bowl Game presented by Northwestern Mutual at the Rose Bowl on January 1, 2019 in Pasadena, California. (Photo by Harry How/Getty Images)Urban Meyer’s departure from Ohio State was one of the biggest storylines to follow entering this college football season. Despite losing an elite coach this year, the Buckeyes remain one of the very best teams in the country.Meyer knew his time at Ohio State was running out. It’s part of the reason the team groomed Ryan Day to become the next head coach. In his first season as the head coach, Day has led the Buckeyes to five-straight convincing victories. He’s coaching an offense that averages 52.4 points per game.During this morning’s edition of Big Noon Kickoff, Meyer cracked a pretty funny joke about Day. “Ryan Day has done an excellent job,” Meyer said. “He turned around Ohio State.”This is quite the joke from Meyer, who isn’t exactly known for his humor.”Ryan Day has done an excellent job. He turned around Ohio State.” — A chuckling Urban Meyer.— Tony Gerdeman (@TonyGerdeman) October 5, 2019Meyer remains in touch with Day on a weekly basis. He’s obviously being sarcastic since Ohio State is still a playoff contender even without him at the helm. There’s a lot of pressure that comes with coaching Ohio State. It’s pretty clear that Day isn’t fazed by the expectations that comes with leading an elite program.Day is going to need to keep his foot on the gas this Saturday when the Buckeyes host the Michigan State Spartans.
