Wrestling World Championships: Rahul Aware to fight for bronze after losing 61kg semi-final

first_imgIndia’s Rahul Aware lost his semi-final bout 6-10 to Georgia’s Beko Lomtadze in the 61 kg category at the World Wrestling Championships on Saturday. Aware will now fight for a bronze medal on Sunday.Aware’s opponent Beko Lomtadze was dominant since the start as he opened up a 4-0 lead and went in the break with a 7-1 advantage. Aware came back to put a formidable performance in the second round and closed the gap from 2-8 to 6-8 but it was Lomtadze who sealed the bout 10-6 in his favour.Earlier, Rahul Aware had defeated former Asian champion Kayliyev of Kazakhstan in a thrilling 10-7 encounter to reach the last four of the 61kg category.A thrilling quarter-final bout till Rahul scored four quick points with a throw in the last minute of the bout. Rahul won the fight 10-7 against former Asian champion Rassul Kaliyev of Kazakhstan.The Indian trailed 0-2 at the start but equalled the scores 2-2 and then extended it to a 6-5 lead in the second period. In a tight bout that could have gone either way, Rahul Aware scored 4 quick points in the closing stages with a throw to take 10-6 lead.The Kazakh attempted to fight back but Aware sealed it 10-7 in the end.
